The Good Place season two! We have made it through the perils and humour of the first season, now we shall follow our heroes while they try and defeat the demon named Michael. We left the four humans with their memories reset and Michael on attempt number two, using psychological torture instead of physical torture.
(SPOILER WARNING! START)
We are just going to dive right into this! So, before they got reset, Eleanor writes a note to herself and sticks it in Janet's mouth, receiving it once the reset is over. They are spread out this time, all of them receiving different soulmates, ones they really don't like. Complete opposites of what they would've chosen themselves. Their living situations, their houses, are also designed to torture them. This time around, Eleanor discovers that they were in The Bad Place quicker due to the note, which told her to find Chidi. After this, Michael resets the neighborhood again due to the false start and it starts a montage of Eleanor finding out that they were in The Bad Place every single time, which is over 800 times mind you.
Even one of the times Jason figured it out! Which was really surprising...
Anyways, they figure it out over 800 times and Vicky, the demon who was "real" Eleanor last season, and all the other demons are sick and fed up with Michael's sad attempts and all the resets that have happened. Shawn, their demon boss, still thinks that they are only on attempt number two, when they are really in the 800s. So, Vicky and the other demons take over the neighborhood and Michael is just the figurehead now, so to speak. He switches sides and tells the humans where they are and what's been happening and offer to help them is they help him.
They take him up on his offer as long as he takes the moral philosophy classes with them. As this is all happening, Jason and Tahani get into a relationship, get married, find out that in the first attempt that Jason and Janet were married, not in that particular order.
Janet starts to malfunction due to their relationship, along with the neighborhood, because of her innate feelings for Jason. Due to her 800+ reboots, Janet has become the most advanced Janet in the universe. Now she is capable of feeling emotions like jealousy and lying, which is what is causing all the malfunctions in the neighborhood, because she is lying saying she's happy for the new couple when she really isn't.
And because of her malfunctioning, she gets advice from Eleanor on what to do to get over Jason. Eleanor advises her to get a rebound guy, so Janet makes Derek...
While that drama is happening, Chidi and Eleanor are dealing with Michael, trying to get him to understand moral philosophy...
Which, understandably, he doesn't comprehend due to being a demon. He decides he needs a little more "hands-on" learning and makes the trolley problem real...
Back to the main story, Michael experiences a mid-life crisis, after being exposed to the idea of permanent death.
They resolve his crisis and they then break into The Bad Place to try and get to The Judge, an impartial entity that was created when the universe was born. She gives the four humans trials and only Eleanor passes. Michael and Janet then come to the rescue and Michael was given permission to go back down to Earth and save the humans to see if they would've gotten better with more time on Earth. Thus, starting another timeline...
(SPOILER WARNING! END)
That is basically the gist of it. Next season gets exciting and dare I say, a little dramatic. I love this series, and while I wasn't all too thrilled with this season by itself, it does tie the whole series together very nicely. The only thing I would've wished for this season to have done would be show more than just mere flashes of the other attempts. I wanted to see more of the one where Tahani was Eleanor's soulmate, I think that one would've been interesting to explore.
Also, in this season, Eleanor finds out that her and Chidi fell in love in one of the other attempts and escaped to Mindy's Medium Place, where Mindy shot a sex tape of them. Mindy St. Claire was a woman who did briefly appear in season one, Eleanor and Jason escaped to there but then came back to the neighborhood, but she didn't hold too much significance then and not really now either. The group escapes to her place very often, in this season when they find out Michael is a demon and try to get away, to the point that she grows tired of them. They did send her Derek though, so she wasn't alone and could have fun with him.
This season wasn't my favourite, they could've done a lot more but didn't. But, it was still good anyhow. That's all I have for this week, I was much more ranty this time than last week but I feel like I didn't give enough details then. Please comment below and tell me how you felt about the review this week! Should I shorten the details or elongate them? Thanks for reading! Next week, we are onto season three, oh my!
PS. I have figured out how to resize images! Huzzah! Unfortunately, I still can't have images with text wrapped around it yet and it is quite annoying. So, yes those GIFs are supposed to be centered as such, mostly because I can't wrap text yet. Very sorry about that, I really hope that Blogger fixes things soon...
